Skirts and Skin That fabulous (and she's tall, too) photo gal, Marne Lucas, unveils her recent titled work, "Velour girls, Skirts and Skin" at the Mark Woolley Gallery, First Thursday, Sept., 7. The show wraps up Saturday, Sept., 30 with a closing party where you can meet and mingle with your favorite "Velour girls." But why wait. The First Thursday show will be followed by a bash at Dante's starting at 10 pm. The "Electro Lounge Pin-up Dance Squad" is sure to feature all the ultra-hip, suede, go-go alligator, stripper-for-artsake ballyhoo you love to hate. Lucas' show is her tribute to the Pin-up period spanning the 40s through the 60s. Flesh? Yes! Her photos, that we've seen at press time, suggest an evolving style mixing wry humor, raw sensuality and innocent glamour captured with a devoted eye. Pop artist/painter, Arnold Pander, shares the show with his titled work, "Naked Velvet." Nudes painted in oil on velvet. Interesting idea, there. Go to the Woolley hanging and see if he pulls it off. Regardless, Portland's sub-culture, sex-positive artists need your support. When photographs of Barbie dolls in boots get all the ink in the "Whoregonian," you know that our gallery row is a long fucking way from Soho. So, support this rare appearance of Sexus in the land of Lexus. While every other gallery is selling the perfect art to match your couch, Mark Woolley is still willing to run with the wild horses (as long as they pony-up 60% of their sales). Gentlemen's Club Events and News Ink-N-Pink is building up steam and coming to a club near you! So far, you'll be able to see Portland's first ever celebration of tattooed flesh at Jody's, Union Jacks and the all new Cocktails and Dreams. Our October issue will bring you all the details including the "Great Tattoo Hunt" which will include more than 30 tattooed dancers in a game of hide-n-seek like you've never seen. Cocktails and Dreams is is the new kid on the Powell Boulevard Strip Club strip and fast becoming a club to be reckoned with. This might have something to do with the outstanding array of dancers provided exclusively by the Heartbreakers Agency. Take a look at their ad this month crammed with so many gorgeous exotic dancers, we could barely fit them all on one page! Look for their grand opening celebration and the premiere performance of the Ink-n-Pink Cabaret on Friday the 13th of October. Club 205, the "Home of the Covergirls," has now expanded their already delectable entertainment to include the finest table dances you've ever had. And don't miss their monthly Covergirl Dance contest on Wednesday the 20th; see if you can pick only one. Wild Orchid keeps getting better and wetter. Coming very soon, Portland's very first exotic waterfall stage. Beautiful naked babes bathing in the rushing waters for your enjoyment. NXNW It's September, and that means the North by Northwest music showcase will be filling up 20 of Portland's music venues with over 300 bands Wednesday the 20th through Saturday the 23rd. Exene Cervenka's Original Sinners offers some bona-fide LA star power while Other Star People gives a Hollywood glamour look to the showcase. Heavy on bands from Austin, LA, Seattle and Portland, the Friday night line-up sponsored by Nail Distribution at Dante's looks fertile (even though Frank pays me to say this). April March, from LA, looks like the latest, alterna-girl angst queen. So many bands, so little time. And it's so cheap, you can't afford not to go. A pass is like 30 bucks, or something, so, that's probably the way to go. That way, if you can't fit your ass in the door for the band(s) you wanna see, you can walk down the street to the next club, or the next club till you find your musical nirvana. And who knows: Maybe the next Cobain will be there. Not bloody likely, but, you can imagine for a New York minute that corporate cocksuckers didn't kill creative genius a long time ago and go hoping for the bloody best. Afterall, the millennium's still young, and so are you. And you've been spending too much time in strip clubs...
